The Canopy

Remember these pails that I picked up for $1.50
And I turned them into umbrella stands
I finally got around to finishing the canopy. I bought a painters cloth from Home Depot. They come in several sizes. So you can choose the size that is right for your space. Just put some grommets in each of the four corners. A bit of a warning when picking out a grommet maker. They can be hard to place depending on the size of grommet and brand you us..  I had attached eye hooks into the top of these poles and used S hooks to attach the canopy to the poles. Here is the finished product.

I admit the poles where a little to tall for the weight of the canopy...notice the snagging... but it did the trick. We had just the right amount of shade. Next year I might switch out the PVC poles for the galvanized pipe or even copper pipe. Hmmm imagine the patina on that over time. And you don't even have to use the pipe. You can tie the canopy to  trees if you're lucky to have some in the back yard.

So for under $50.00 I got a canopy that gives some shade and adds a little character to the yard.

A special thanks goes out to Daniel who helped with his man power and did the grommet work for me. He was even kind enough to hang the canopy up as well. We wouldn't have had the shade without you.  Thanks

Garden Art

A while ago I posted about my Wheel barrow find from Craig's list

Nice and rusty with tons of character. I have used it for gardening since its small and slightly swallow. The reason I bought it was to add structure and art to the garden. This weekend I did just that, I lined the wheel barrow with landscape fabric and loaded it up with some dirt and plants.
Now I have a pop of color to the front yard. The wheel barrow is in a perfect spot to change the look seasonally.

Every time I come home it brings a smile to my face. Yea!!

Garden pails

A month or so ago I go these pails off of Craig's list.

I saw a idea for an outdoor umbrella stand in one of my magazines using a large planter as the base for the umbrella. Since I wanted to do a canopy instead I'm using 4 of these as base supports for the poles.

I spray painted them green and added rocks to the bottom for weight, topped it off with dirt and plants.

That's Gus giving his approval to my work. Coming in a future posting is the canopy addition keep posted.

My Veggie Garden

A couple of weeks ago I posted how a friend help me move a couple of bushes.

We left this empty spot to start my veggie garden. Here is what it became over the weekend.

So we have yummy tomatoes, crunchy peppers and succulent eggplant.
Can't wait to start picking!!! And look a surprise. When the Peonies were moved a piece of the root must have been sliced and now!!!!
A new bush is growing. I'll let it stay there for now. Think I'll move it next year after it blooms.
And a little further down I'm starting a herb garden right now we have Rosemary and Basil.

And remember those pumpkins plants that started on their own. I decided to let them grow where they stood.

It's awesome you stopped by!!!....Thanks

My Weekend Projects

Boy I put a lot on the plate for this weekend. Plant a whole load of stuff I got durning the week, move plants and set up my veggie garden.

Here is where I started. This side of the house is weed ridden and dark.

I got these hostas from someone giving them away.
Look at the side of the house now. Way Way better!

Planted some herbs...

Thanks to my cousin for these pots and Yep these is your chives and sage still growing.
These bushes had to be moved to make way for my veggie garden.

Now a big empty space...

Looks great doesn't it.... Lots of hard work..... Now now before you start thinking I'm some super person for getting these bushes out of the garden. A friend of mine stopped by to say hello and saw me struggling. He took over in less than 15 minutes both bushes where out of the garden. and he even dug the hole for it's new home. Boy that was a life safer...

And here is another reason why I love Craig's list. I couldn't get both bushes in the space I had reserved for them. I posted an ad one hour later bush was gone. Hip hip hooray I'm not a plant killer!!!!
I'm hoping this little spot will look awesome next spring.

Planted all the blub I picked up for my spring decoration on the porch and in the house. I'll have to wait and see. Here is a bamboo I had big plans for. Expect I couldn't get it in the spot I wanted. The spot was rittled with roots just couldn't dig a hole deep enough
Here is the suprise of the day. Pumpkin seedlings
Last year I made a Autum display with some Pumpkins. I never got to throw out the pumpkins before winter came in and they rotted  Now the question is do I move them or leave them were they are. There is not much room from them to spread out. Hmmm will have to think about that one. Let me know what you would do.

Thanks for stopping by
